META SERIES: COMBAT

nexusbeing:

wanda was trained in combat by s.teve r.ogers —- almost as soon as she was put on the avengers roster, cap began grooming her in Real Hand to Hand combat. this was meant to be used alongside her magic and, in the event magic couldn’t be used, in PLACE of her powers.

w.anda m.aximoff was adept at magic. but her application of that craft was unusual and personal to her, a strange art of probability and chance. though she was a spell caster, and her primary powers were best deployed over range and distance, she was also physically capable. like all long-serving avengers, she had augmented her skills with combat training and hand-to-hand skills for times when magic might fail her. c.aptain a.merica had trained her personally.

even without her hex power, thor would have been glad to have wanda at his side in a brawl. he had seen her take down foes twice her size.

from Avengers: Everybody Wants To Rule the World.

now, there isn’t much show of her using this physical prowess in canon. why is that? well, it’s mostly because if you have a character that you could make do potentially anything imaginable not doing just that seems a little blasé. marvel is fond of big power displays when it comes to wanda. if she’s not causing a city wide tsunami or dueling a cosmic fire bird, it’s not interesting enough for them. nevertheless, there have been a couple of examples of her fending off villainy with brawn alone!

that’s my fight-y little baby.

so basically, i believe her fighting style would most closely mirror cap’s. steve is one of most adept fighters in m.arvel and, as b.lack p.anther once put it, he is able to instinctively adapt to any fighting style or situation. that’s not to say he is a master of every fighting style, but he is able to learn quickly and tactically how to defend against almost any attack DESPITE the opponents fighting style. there are a lot of factors that go into his ability to fight (SS serum, military training, eidectic memory because of the SS serum), but the ability to adapt to various fighting style situations is something that can be instilled in anyone with the right amount of training. i personally believe this would have been a key point in wanda’s training. if magic were to fail her, she would need to adapt QUICKLY to her situation. she is used to thinking fast on her feet due to the nature of powers, so this would be something she is naturally inclined to do well at.

there are, of course, things that cap can do that she simply can’t because of their difference in stature and strength. a lot of her techniques rely on evasiveness rather than brute strength. she’s fluid when she moves and she’s extremely limber. she has personally trained in martial arts in any official capacity but, since cap has mastery of several forms of martial arts, that bleeds into the way she fights as well.

we also have to remember that wanda is a generally angry person. i don’t mean she’s constantly pissed, but there is an underlying, deep-rooted anger inside of her. if she is in a situation where she has to fight hand and fist, a lot of anger will probably be present. she is prideful in her ability to come out on top of fight and combined with her angry nature, you won’t see her take to losing too easy.

i also have this post for reference to her magical combat, but i will make a longer and more detailed post on that soon enough. it would be more like a week long project rather than just a couple hours of writing.
